Applications are invited from male and female Indian citizen for grant of Permanent/Short Service Commission in Technical branches of the Indian Air Force for the following courses
No 79 Aeronautical Engineers Course (AEC) (Permanent Commission for Men)
No 51 Short Service Commission Course (SSC) (for Men and Women)

Training Commencing in July 2011

Last date for receipt of applications for the candidates who are sending their applications from Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Lakshadweep and Minicoy Islands, Assam, Meghalaya, Manipur, Arunachal Pradesh, Tripura, Nagaland and Mizoram is: 14th September, 2010

Eligibility condition: Should be an Indian citizen

Age: 18 to 28 years as on 01st July 2011 i.e. born between 02nd July 1983 to 01st July 1993 (both dates inclusive)

Educational qualifications

Aeronautical Engineer (Electronics) (AE(L): Candidates applying for AE(L) branch would be eligible if they have undergone a minimum of four year degree qualification and secured a minimum of 60% marks in all papers put together from a recognized university or cleared section A and B examination of Associate Membership of Institution of Engineers (India) or Aeronautical Society of India or Graduate membership examination of the Institute of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineers by actual studies provided the candidate has studied at least eight subjects out of the list of eighteen subjects mentioned below

Aeronautical Engineer (Mechanical) (AE(M): Candidates applying for AE(M) branch would be eligible if they have undergone a minimum of four year degree qualification and secured a minimum of 60% marks in all papers put together from a recognized university or cleared section A and B examination of Associate Membership of Institution of Engineers (India) or Aeronautical Society of India by actual studies with at least eight subjects out of the list of eighteen subjects mentioned below

Candidates applying for 79 AEC/51 SSC courses are requested to satisfy themselves of their eligibility as per the advertisement. Receipt of call up letter does not imply fulfillment of eligibility criteria

Candidates appearing in final year/semester examination may also apply provided they fulfill the following conditions (i) Candidates should not have any present backlog and should have secured a minimum of 60% marks in aggregate in all papers put together up to the last semester for which results have been declared at the time of applying/AFSB testing (ii) Candidates should be able to provide provisional/original degree certificate latest by 15th June, 2011

Physical standards: Minimum height Men 157.5 cms, women 152 cms with correlated weight. Other additional medical criteria would be evaluated by the Air Force Medical Authorities whose decision on the fitness would be final

How to apply: If you meet the eligibility criteria, download the application format from website www.careerairforce.nic.in complete the columns in the application in English (block capitals) and send the same by ordinary post to the address as per first choice of centre for written examination of Engineering Knowledge Test (EKT)

Alternately, the application can be typed or handwritten (in block capitals) as per the format given in the advertisement in A4 size paper. Application must reach the concerned Command HQ on or before last date for receipt of applications

No queries/correspondence will be entertained regarding late receipt/non receipt of incomplete/ non eligible/ illegible applications

Superscribe the envelope with course name for which applying and EKT centres opted for

Final allotment of EKT centre will be at the discretion of Command HQs

Application must be accompanied by two self addressed envelope (size 23×10 cm), one pasted with Rs 27/- postage stamp and the other with Rs 5/- postage stamp along with two unattested recent colour photographs similar to one pasted on the application

Selection procedure: After scrutiny of applications, eligible candidates whose applications have been received by the due date will be called for Engineering Knowledge Test (EKT) which will be conducted at the centres mentioned above on 24th October, 2010 (Sunday)

Engineering Knowledge Test has two parts, namely part A-General Engineering, part B-Specialized paper for each engineering discipline. The specialized papers are for disciplines of Mechanical Engineering, Aeronautical Engineering, Electronics and Instrumentation Engineering and Computer Engineering/ Information Technology. The questions are objective type in nature and duration of test would be one hour. Use of simple calculator (without flash/data storage provision) is permitted. Use of mobile phone during the examination is prohibited. Roll numbers of short-listed candidates based on EKT results will be displayed on website www.careerairforce.nic.in

Candidates who are short-listed on the basis of EKT will be called for Personality Test at one of the Air Force Selection Board (AFSBs) at Dehradun, Mysore or Varanasi. Stage I which consists of Intelligence Test and Picture Perception and Discussion Test (PP&DT) is a screening test and only those who qualify would undergo Stage II testing. Others would be sent back on the first day itself

Stage II tests consisting of Psychological Test, Group Tests and interview will be conducted on subsequent days (approx 4-5 days)

Medical examination will be conducted at AFCME, New Delhi or IAM Bangaluru for those who are recommended by AFSBs after Stage-II testing

Candidates recommended by the AFSBs and declared medically fit will be detail for training based on All India merit and number of vacancies

No compensation will be paid in respect of any injury sustained during the testing of AFSB

Onus of meeting eligibility criteria tests with the applicant. Merely undergoing EKT/SSB testing would not constitute fulfillment of eligibility requirements

10% of the vacancies are reserved for NCC Air Wing ‘C’ certificate holders

Training is scheduled to commence in the first week of July 2011 for 79 AEC/51 SSC courses
