Ministry of Environment and Forests requires the services of Scientists, on Direct Recruitment
Basis for thirteen (13) posts as detailed below:

A. Botanical Survey of India - Scientist - G (Director) in the Pay scale of Rs. 37,400- 67,000
with a Grade Pay of Rs.10,000 in Pay Band - 4
(i) Post No. 01/BSI- one [01] post [Unreserved]
Essential Qualifications/ Experience
Master’s Degree in Botany from a recognized University or Institution with minimum of 21years
experience or Ph.D with a minimum of 18 years experience [excluding the period spent in obtaining
Ph.D.], in original Botanical Research and Floristic Survey/Research work.
Desirable Qualifications
(i) Knowledge of International Code of Plant Nomenclature; (ii) knowledge of one or more of the
following foreign languages - Latin, German, French & Russian; (iii) Administrative experience in
running a large research Department (iv) Practical experience in arrangements of museum
collections; (v) Evidence of outstanding scientific research; and (vi) Publications in referred journals
of international repute



Duties and Job requirements
(i) Advise Government of India on Botanic matters,
(ii) Research in taxonomy of all types of flora,
(iii) To guide, direct and supervise research work, floristic surveys, taxonomy and
maintenance of Botanic Galleries of the Industrial section, Indian Museum, and
(iv) Administration of the Headquarters Office of BSI in Kolkata and its Regional Centres in
different parts of the country
(v) Discharge of the duties of the Head of the Department

B. National Museum of Natural History Scientist - C (Pay Band PB-3 of Rs.15,600-39,100 with
grade pay of Rs.6600) [Pre-revised scale Rs. 10,000-15,200]

Essential Educational Qualifications and Experience
(i) Master’s Degree in Botany/Zoology/Geology/Bioscience/Life Science/Environmental Science/
Wildlife Biology, with at least a diploma or a certificate of completion of a course in Museology of a
duration of not less than 10 months or two years’ experience of working in a State/ National
Museum, preferably in the Natural History Section. (ii) three (03) years experience in the field of
museum work or teaching museum methods and techniques with specialization in natural history, in
addition to the 2 years experience required in lieu of the diploma/certificate in Museology, as stated
in (i) above.

Desirable qualifications
(i) Doctorate in relevant subject from a recognized university.
(ii) Experience in the field work in natural history collection, preservation and documentation.
(iii) Knowledge and experience in development of thematic exhibitions and programmes.
(iv) Knowledge of latest display design and multimedia presentation.
Duties and Job requirements
(i) To assist in Curatorial responsibilities related with development & management of natural
history collections, exhibition and related educational and extension services.
(ii) To assist in planning, development & organization of museum collection, exhibition and
educational programmes.
(iii) To assist in planning, development and execution of thematic exhibits of permanent &
temporary nature.
(iv) Maintenance & documentation of Reserve collections and exhibits.

C. SFS College, Directorate of Forest Education[DFE], Dehradun - Scientist - B (Lecturer in

Essential Educational Qualifications and Experience
Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering of a Recognized University

Desirable qualifications
5 years experience in the field of Civil Engineering including teaching Experience.
Duties and Job requirements
(i) Teaching of Forest Engineering, Surveying and Levelling (theory and practical) to the
State Forest Service Officers and Range Forest Officers Trainees
(ii) To get field engineering exercises like road alignment etc. conducted in field forest areas
(iii) Accompany officer trainees on field tours all over the country, and
(iv) Any other work as assigned from time to time.

D. National River Conservation Directorate [NRCD], Scientist - E (Pay Band PB-4 of

Essential Educational qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering/Technology from a recognized University
or Institute with eleven (11) years experience.
Desirable qualifications
M. Tech. in Environmental Engineering/ Public Health Engineering/Rivers & Lake Conservation /
Water Resources.
E. National River Conservation Directorate [NRCD], Scientist - B (Pay Band PB-3 of
Rs.15,600-39,100 with grade pay of Rs.5400/- [Pre-revised scale Rs. 8,000-13,500]

Essential Educational qualifications
B.E/B.Tech. in any discipline from a recognized University or Institute.
Desirable qualifications
(i) M. Tech. in Environmental Engineering/ Public Health Engineering/ Water Resources or
Conservation of Rivers and Lakes.

Duties and Job requirements for all the posts of NRCD mentioned above
1. Development of Plans and implementation of activities for prevention, control and
abatement of Pollution and conservation of the river Ganga
2. Monitoring of Water Quality, River Ecology, Environmental Pollution and investigations and
research in these areas.
3. Planning and Execution of programme related to Sewerage Infrastructure, Catchment Area
treatment, protection of flood plains
4. Planning and Implementation of water conservation practices, including recycling and
reuse, rain water harvesting and decentralized sewage treatment systems

Essential Educational Qualifications and Experience
Master’s degree in Botany from a recognized University with three years experience in
research/teaching in the field of taxonomy of Angiosperms/Bryophytes/ Lichens/Fungi/Algae.
Desirable qualifications
1. Doctorate in Botany from a recognized university;
2. Knowledge of International Code of Plant Nomenclature,
3. Working knowledge of any of the foreign languages - Latin, German, French and Russian, and
4. Area of Experience - Taxonomy of any one of the fields - Angiosperms/Algae/ Fungi/Lichens
/Bryophytes.
Duties & Job Requirements
(i) To identify plants.
(ii) To prepare scientific reports on field or herbarium specimens.
(iii) To undertake field excursions.
(iv) To supervise the work of Scientific Assistants & Technical Assistants.
(v) Identification of specimens in the Regional/National Herbaria.
(vi) Preparation of Floristic accounts of the collections of Algae/Fungi/ Lichens/Bryophytes/
Pteridophytes/Gymnosperms/Angiosperms.
(vii) Help and assistance to the Office-in-charge of the Office and
(viii) Any other duties that may be assigned to him from time to time.

Essential Educational Qualifications and Experience
Master’s Degree in Horticulture or Agriculture with specialization in Horticulture, from a
recognized university or equivalent with 3 years research/teaching experience in the filed of
Horticulture/cultivation practices of wild plants/conservation biology.
Desirable Qualifications
1. Doctorate in Horticulture or Agriculture from a recognized University;
2. Knowledge of International Code of Plant Nomenclature;
3. Working of one or more of the foreign languages - Latin, German, French and Russian, and
4. Area of Experience - Horticulture/Conservation Biology.
Duties & Job Requirements
(i) Conduct and guide Research work pertaining to (a) Horticulture and Plant Introduction, (b)
Plant Breeding, (c) Plant Hybridization, (d) Plant acclimatization, (e) raising and
propagation of plant etc., in the experimental gardens and
(ii) To assist the Head of Offices in their administrative & scientific work connected with
maintenance and development of Garden in different parts of India.
Place of Posting : Kolkata, with liability to be posed anywhere in India.
AGE LIMIT
The upper age limit for the post of Director, Botanical Survey of India (Scientist ‘G’) and Scientist
“E” [NRCD] is 50 (fifty) years and for the posts of Scientists ‘C’ as well as Scientist ‘B’ is 35 years
relaxable by five (05) years for government servants. For SC/ST/OBC/Physically Handicapped and
Ex-servicemen, age limit is relaxable as per rules. The crucial date for determining the age limit shall
be the closing date for receipt of applications from candidates in India (and not the closing date
prescribed for those from abroad and for those in Assam, Megahalaya, Arunachal Pradesh,
Mizoram, Manipur, Nagaland, Tripura, Sikkim, Ladakh division of the Jammu & Kashmir State,
Lahaul & Spiti District and Pangi Sub-division of Chamba District of Himachal Pradesh, the Andman
& Nicobar Islands and Lakshadweep.)

IMPORTANT:
(1) Experience specified for the above post shall be the experience acquired after obtaining the
essential educational qualifications prescribed (along with which experience is prescribed). In
deserving cases, a higher initial starting pay not exceeding five advance increments over the
minimum of the scale may be given on the recommendation of the Departmental Recruitment
Committee.
(2) Applications without the mention of the post number as stated in the advertisement
will be treated as incomplete.
(3) Certificates of proof of age, educational qualifications, research/ work experience and claim
of belonging to SC/ST/OBC/Physically Handicapped, etc., if in any language other than
Hindi or English, should be accompanied by a English translation thereof [word to word],
duly attested, failing which the same would not be treated as a proof and applications
will be rejected.

GENERAL CONDITIONS: -
(i) Applications should be sent either in English or in Hindi and in the prescribed proforma
itself.
(ii) Applications must be accompanied by attested copies of certificates of
proof of age, educational qualifications, research/ work experience and claim of belonging
to SC/ST/OBC/Physically Handicapped, etc. failing which the application will be
treated as incomplete and summarily rejected.
(iii) Persons working in Government/Public Sector Undertakings/Autonomous
Organisations should submit their applications through proper channel together
with a certificate as in Annexure. They may, if they so wish send an advance copy of
the application, by the due date in the prescribed form, complete in all respects,
including original bank draft. The advance copy should invariably be followed by the
application which is forwarded through proper channel and must reach this Section not
later than 15 days after the closing date, failing which their candidature will not be
considered. It may be noted that advance copy of application with photocopy of bank
draft will be treated as incomplete and would be summarily rejected.
(iv) Candidates will have to produce the proof of details furnished in their applications, in
original, as and when required.
(v) Non-Departmental outstation candidates called for interview will be paid to and fro
Three tier AC railway/ bus fare by the shortest route from the place mentioned in column
No. 10 of the application proforma to Delhi, for the journey performed within the territory of
India, only on production of proof of journey such as the railway or bus ticket, etc.
(vi) Applications received after the due date, unsigned, not in the prescribed proforma,
without photograph, without mention of post number or filled in incorrectly,
advance copy if not followed by the copy through proper channel, without demand
draft and incomplete in any respect, will not be considered.
(vii) Only Indian Nationals need apply.
(viii) Canvassing in any form will be a disqualification.
(ix) The prescribed educational qualifications and experience are minimum and it would be
open to the Ministry to restrict the number of candidates to be interviewed to a
reasonable limit by adopting qualifications and experience of a higher level than the
minimum prescribed in the advertisement.
(x) The Ministry reserves the right not to fill up the post, if it so decides.
(xi) No correspondence/representation will be entertained either in regard to the call for
interview and/or selection.
(xii) It may be noted that if, at any stage, it is discovered that an attempt has been made by
the applicant to willfully conceal or misrepresent the facts, his candidature for the
posts will be summarily rejected or his employment terminated.
(xiii) The applications must be sent in the prescribed proforma (neatly hand-written or typed
out in A-4 size paper 210x297 mm) accompanied by crossed bank draft (Indian Postal
Orders will not be entertained and the application will not be considered) of the
value of Rs.100/- (Rupees one hundred only) drawn in favour of Drawing & Disbursing
Officer, Ministry of Environment and Forests, payable at New Delhi.
(xiv) Candidates must enclose a self-addressed post-card, along with the application.
