Weak Rupee hits foreign education aspirants hard

While youngsters aspiring for higher education abroad are getting ready to fly to various countries to follow their dreams, different airlines are coming up with a variety of schemes and offers to reduce the strain on the students’ pockets.
It is that time of the year when candidates with plans of studying abroad are ready to fly after finalising their university. While studying abroad is not a trend that will dissolve anytime soon, the fall in the value of the rupee has made going to foreign countries much costlier for aspirants.
However, many national and international airlines are offering different types of schemes such as discounts in the air ticket and allowing excess baggage. Airlines such as Emirates, Singapore Airlines and Jet Airways, among others, are presenting such offers during this period to help students going to study abroad.
Not only airlines, travel agencies are also coming up with some exclusive offers. To help students save on their higher studies abroad, Cleartrip is offering an exclusive “Cleartrip Scholar Offer”.
Students can book their one-way flight tickets to universities in Canada, Europe, Australia and New Zealand with offers such as allowing cash back of up to Rs2,500 along with excess baggage allowances on a valid student visa.
Mohit Gambhir, an expert consultant for higher education abroad, said, “The fees in universities abroad are really high. After taking care of the fees, accommodation and other expenses are unavoidable. In this case, candidates are desperately willing to avail any kind of offer or scheme or any such advantages that will help them drop the figure of the total expenditure, even if it is not a very huge sum of amount.”
“Especially in the case of students from India, the luggage is much more than the typical 20kg upper limit. They are practically shifting their base to a different country, so the baggage is likely to be heavy. In such a case if the airline charges them extra amount, there will be a huge hole in the pockets of these candidates,” added Gambhir.
